QoS & Traffic Shaping

With todays networks becoming increasingly saturated by an ever increasing amount of critical and non-critical traffic it has become a matter to network reliability that administrators be able to differentiate between these two types of traffic and assign the appropriate priorities to each. The EdgeXOS platforms greatly assist administrators in achieving this goal.

Components

The following is a list of components included as part of the QoS & Traffic Shaping feature set within the EdgeXOS platform.

Host/Network-Based Shaping
When used in conjunction with our NAC firewall and XFlow modules administrators can easily assign bandwidth rate-limits and/or QoS priorities on a per user or per group basis and then report on that usage. This functionality does require the utilization of the XFlow network reporting syste.

XFlow^TM Application Prioritization
This feature enables an administrator to assign perferences for specific applications like VoIP, HTTPS, Citrix, etc. Prioritization can be done through standard connection restrictions or through DiffServ bit marking, rate policing, or any combination of the three.

XFlow^TM Bandwidth Equalization
This feature automatically ensures that every user receives their fair share of bandwidth resources and that heavy users are not able to take all of the bandwidth when overall network utilization is high.

XFlow^TM Top Usage Reporting
Through continuous monitoring this reporting capability can quickly show the network administrator what is going on within their network and provide 3D graphical reports displaying top users and top applications. Additionally administrators can view top applications on a per user basis and see what the overview traffic patterns are for future policy changes.

XFlow^TM Device Monitoring / Alerting
Monitor devices individually and gather statistics for daily, weekly and monthly usage. Block devices when usage reaches certain predefined limits. Provide individual device reporting to end-users so that they can see how much bandwidth they have used with automated alerts when users reach certain thresholds.

Site2Site^TM WAN Optimization
The traffic shaping module within the EdgeXOS appliance adds QoS and compression capabilities to any Site2Site tunnels connected to remote sites. The enhanced compression delivers faster downloads of large files and enhances overall throughput between sites.
