Applications
Many organizations utilize Microsoft's File Server capability to share documents between various departments and across wide-area network VPNs so that remote offices can access and update files located at a central office or data center. Micrsoft's document and printer sharing facility uses a protocol called NBT or NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Since this protocol is built-in to the most popular OS in the world and is fairly easy to enable it is often used despite some of its drawbacks.
